if we're talking hives i'd say... barely homosapien, or no pun intended. i dunno.
their cover of compulsive gamblers stop and think it over was great!!

i'd also say Reptilia by the strokes. i know everyone hates them (especially gary) but i think it's a masterpiece....

No!
All these songs, though they may be good, will never, ever, CONCEIVABLY be greater than "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. I'm sorry, it just won't happen.

best song ever
and i must say I agree with ben for the first time in my life and say that bohemian raphsody is the best song ever, it does in fact capture attention and everyone knows it even if you dont like Queen.
plus it was waaaay ahead of its time and very much out of the normal, great riffs form Bryan may, excellent beats form roger taylor, john deacon kept the rhythm and well freddy just hit the notes perfectly with the catchy lyrics!!

YOU CANNOT BEAT IT!!!!
SO DONT TRY!!!

NO!
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is the greatest song ever, and it's not about to be beaten out by Bohemian Rhapsody! That song catches the attention of people from every genre because it's laughed at in every genre. Sure it was genius, but people don't recognize it for the heart-breaking song it was, they recongnize it for the "ISS VIL LACH! NOOO WE WILL NOT LET HIM GO!" part, just because it's recongnized by all genres doesn't mean it's respected by all genres; it's mostly just laughed at.

IN CONTRAST, play "Hurt" for ANYONE and they will say "Wow". No one will ever giggle at that song. That song isn't only recognized by all genres, it's respected by all genres, the end.

BWUH!?
How can you possibly NOT like anything by Johnny Cash? Johnny Cash could beat box via farts and it would be more genius than Willie Dixon. I mean come on, how can you NOT LIKE HURT!?

P.S. The Hives could do an amazing cover of Ring Of Fire- Pelle's howls would be perfect for it.

AAAAH FEEEYL EEEIN TO A BURNIN' RING OF FAIIIRE!

Maybe put one of those squeeky notes on the "in", and there you have it, genius.

This is a hard one..
I'm not into the old stuff a lot, but Bohemian Rapsody is one hell of a track... But then there's The Drugs Don't Work by Ben Harper, which is also very good, and the acoustic version of Creep by Radiohead, and then you have Suds and Soda by the amazing band called dEUS... and so on...

Can't give you just ONE track...

And Gary, The fucking' Who is performing at the Werchter festival this summer.
