Just wondering
if any of you guys have music tastes that arent the usual rock category? Can be anything.

I personally love The Mamas and Papas...not your average band, but theyr great.

most of the music i listen to is from the fifties and sixties. and i listen to lots of punk on top of that. I mainly like rockabilly, sixties garage and punk. but i also like a bit of country, girl groups, soul, ska, jazz. i like a bit of everything except crappy pop music that fills the charts. and most eighties music. ugh!!

Ska: The Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, The Specials, The Selecter, Toots and Maytals.

You have to be selective with country music.I used to think it was just for rednecks but the early stuff is brilliant.
Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, The Carter Family. Some new country stuff which is good - Gillian Welch, Be Good Tanyas and the alt.country bands like Lambchop, Wilco etc.

Rockabilly - there's too much to mention but anything on Sun Records is guaranteed to be pure gold. Wanda Jackson, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins. Rockabilly compilations are the best things to get though. Just go and buy and Sun records compilation, that's how I got into rockabilly.

Girl Groups - The Shangri-Las, The Angels, The Ronettes, The Shirelles, The Crystals.

i like a lot of folk songs that come from newfoundland canada because i was born in newfoundland and i happen to like a lot of the folk songs such as "i's the b'y" hehehe

The Beach Boys: amazing.
And, Dion and the Belmonts who did Born To Cry originally are fantastic too. I'm obsessed with fifties and sixties music. well, i'm just obsessed with the fifties and sixties i general!! The clothes, the films, the music. It just seems like it was such an amazing time to be young.

Dion and The Belmonts. Anyone notice a certain similarity what with the matching jackets and shoes?!

i like a lot of old timey country like hank williams sr and charley pride. the country now a days sucks so much fucking* ass it's just sad. But allison krauss has an amazing voice.




oh and i LOVE blue grass music! I love going to the grand old opry every year, it's amazing. i wish i could play the banjo. my whole mother's side of the family has an awesome bluegrass band called "the unknown renegades". they're awesome.

my music taste is a bit influenced by electronic music.

all in all i like every kind of music except teccno music, drum'n'bass, all commercial stuff and so on...

well i don't often listen to ska but the ska-groups i know are suicide machines, skatilites...or...reel big fish....
well the most music i listen to is rock...but i also ike fifties and sixties...and i like the beatles very much!!!! and sometimes jazz or ska.....but i CAN'T stand techno, the eighties, pop (britney and lots more..) and well hip/hop...and just metal (marilyn manson....) awww....

Oh man.....
So many, but I must say this: The Beastie Boys are on of my all time favorite bands and they are so awesome. I dont know what you would classify "rock" so my fav. bands goes like this: Incubus, Beastie Boys, Jimmies Chicken Shack, and The Hives, of course.

yeah I used to be obsessed with the Beastie Boys!! not as keen on their new stuff though, it sounds a bit samey. I like Paul's Boutique best I think because its so crazy and diverse and colourful. Hello Nasty is okay too. the first 10 songs are classic then it goes a bit downhill then it picks up again at the end.

P.S. another classic Cash song is Devils Right Hand
it rocks my ass*!!!

The other kinds of music I like is sort of the mod movement in the sixties. The Animals and the Small faces are very good. Older music is more genuine and unstained by todays popular culture. It is refreshingly different and still excellent.

yes, you are very right about that!!! I think that older music sounds newer than a lot of music around at the moment. I think that in the eighties, when programming came in, they sort of made everything sound the same. whereas in the fifties and sixties you could hear every instrument that was being played separately. the eighties ruined music!!!
