bad, bad, bad
oh god its awful. well for a start its called beverley hills, and its got all these semi clad women in it.its truly terrible. i always think thats a sign of a band going down hill when they have to resort to using scantily clad women to sell their music. it just shows a lack of imagination and its totally sexist. as if all women can do is prance around in a bikini, grrr, it makes me mad!!!

Hugh Hefner
The last ditch attempt to be 'ironically cool' by any band!

You see, The Hives don't make this mistake, because they know (as do we) that they are the "Coolest People In The World" (copyright The Hives 1996) then Cameos in their videos would be pointless!

yeah..
I frequent their website..and when I first heard they had shot their video at the playboy mansion, I seriously lost all my hopes for the band. I hate it when bands think they have to have half naked women in their videos in order for it to sell.. Seems like they forget half of their fans are female themselves.

But I read on their boards that someone had heard their whole new album already. He/She was quite positive about it..but it's still only one person's opinion..So we'll just have to wait for the album to be released..

And it's one of the things I like of the Hives..how they don't need half naked women and idiot video plots.

yeah!
i'm not a huge weezer fan but i thought they had a little more credibility than that. they're obviously getting pressure from the record company to have a huge hit, so its like "i know, lets film the video at the playboy mansion!" it sucks and it disappoints me. If The Hives ever started doing videos with girls in bikinis in them i'd chew my own foot off.

glad you agree!
I don't think The Hives are into that sort of thing. I think they have respect for women, because they've had Sahara Hotnights, the Rogers Sisters and a band called The Spazzies as opening acts for them and they are all girl bands. So I think maybe that shows they are more supportive of girls than some other bands, who just use them as "props" in their videos.

Yeah
I would be seriously disappointed in The Hives if they ever did such a thing. Just like I was seriously disappointed in weezer.. I thought would have the balls to stand up against the record company and do what they want. At least..I hope this was the record company's decision.

shame on all of you
The song is great. The video is great. All of you think you have the word "cool" defined to the T so much that you can't allow yourself to see anything in the video past T&A. Loosen up. You all remind me of the music snobs represented in High Fidelity. Weezer is still cool. You all just don't get it.

its not the music. the song seems ok (usual stuff but ok) i just hate the way they have to have these videos with semi clad women in them. its so unoriginal and boring. it bores me to death. its like "oh, another video with a girl in a bikini in it" is that all there is to show in a video?

whatever you say..
I just think there are enough music videos that rely completely on ''T&A''. Weezer doesn't need that. They already have a huge fanbase, I don't understand why they feel the need to make such a video.

And if you compare Beverly Hills to some of their older material (yeah yeah..you're probably thinking I'm one of those fans still hoping for Pinkerton II), it just is not as good. It might be a new kind of experiment..but it doesn't suit Weezer.

I saw Beverly Hills on MTV for the first time today, and although I'm happy they're finally showing some Weezer, it just sucks it has to be BvH.

Yep.
Scantily clad women. How terrible. Can't think of anything else that would stop me watching a music video, but bikini-wearing women would definitely stop me watching it.
I don't stand for that sort of thing.
Usually because I'm sat down with a box of tissues.

Please note, my only objection was Hugh Hefner! why have men at all? Can't remember the last decent lesbo Music Video since 'all the things She Said' by those russian chicks in School uniform!

definitely!
it makes you feel a bit let down when a band you may have had time for before stoops to a juvenile, mainstream, bland level. i dont mind silly videos, in fact i prefer videos with humour but its just the sexist element that i draw the line at. it alienates you as a girl

I'm not being sexist. I appreciate the beauty of the female form. That's all. Exactly how I appreciate is up to me, thank you very much.
How does seeing women in a video alienate you as a girl? Britney Spears et al always has blokes in her vids stripped down, but that doesn't seem to alienate any blokes.

i don't agree with that either! its all part of the same mindless, boring, endless conveyor belt of MTV-endorsed rubbish. I don't agree with using anyone, male or female, as a sex object. its really stupid and boring.

well, it's exactly these sort of things that show the difference between boys and girls. Or women and men.

Guys always have to confirm their shallowness in ways like these.

....
seeing women wearing hardly anything in videos is alienating because it makes you feel that thats the only thing women can do in music: wear a bikini and prance around. you never see any females actually playing music on MTV.

Hmm.
You know there are very talented female musicians out there, and I'm sure some of them do play on MTV. Women have made many important contributions to music and the music industry, so I don't really understand your problem? Yes, sometimes they are depicted in a sexist manner. but so are men. It's here to stay, so you'll just have to lump it.

yeah
That's the problem..guys only seem to see girls as sex objects because that's how they are constantly portrayed. It's probably the most annoying stereotype there is, and it is everywhere.

Just watch one day of MTV and add up all the half naked women walking around in videos as figurants..than compare that to the amount of guys in videos doing the same thing. Probably due to a difference in interests..but it still doesnt make sense to me.

i agree with you! i'm into a lot of girl bands and female musicians. and a lot of what they sing about is getting rid of sexist and stereotypical images and not just saying "oh there's nothing we can do about it, just try and ignore it"

yes there are definitely more women represented as sex objects than men. and women are always shown in a much more provocative and overtly sexual way as well. its totally misogynist

i think we've argued enough now. me and fudgemellow have our point of view and you've got yours. but i think we all agree that if The Hives resorted to using that kind of imagery we'd be pretty disappointed.

Yes.
You can try. but while channels like MTV knock out images like that, there's really no way to compete. And when you see men in a music video, wearing only shorts, it's pretty bloody sexist too. But there's no flaring outrage from men. Probably because we're too busy working to support women...

Hm..,
yeah..the problem is also that it seems like guys are taught to think about women in this way. They grow up with the idea that they have to think of every woman with big breasts as ''hot'' and a sex object..

I know..I'm generalizing..there are of course guys that are not like this.

And yeah..let's stop the arguing. I think we made all our points of view clear enough now..

know what!
i saw on a show that research was done and men with lower IQ's generally tend to like larger breasts.
haha. it's prolly not like that for all cases but it would fit with the whole dumb big lug with his big boobed blonde trophy wife stereotype, eh?

anyways, i'm afraid weezer will disappoint me with this album, which is a shame because i love them. i don't really care abouyt the video though.. i never really watch videos anyways. the song is catchy but not pure quality or anything.

But I still have hopes for the album..If Beverly Hills is the worst song on it, it could still be a really good album.

they're not coming to the Netherlands. And in Germany they're only playing festivals, so no chance of going to see them there.

I hope they're going to do an end of summer/autumn tour and come to the Netherlands then.
