How can you define rock music?
I've been thinking... (rare occasion)

Does rock include alternative music? Does it include these bands/people:
Ash
The Killers
Radiohead
Morrissey
Green Day
R.E.M.

Personally, I would say that anything on the lighter side of the Foo Fighters' song Generator is not rock music, but I really can't be sure. These categories are confusing, but I get annoyed when every act that isn't hip hop, rap, dance, r&b, pop, classical or country is referred to as rock.

if u go to realplayer they'll have all these different genres in the rock section...like alternative,pop-rock,scott rock, art rock,swederock....all different kinds it's unbelievable....

i geuss it comes down to the basic instruments used in genres...so rock music would consist of: drums, guitars,bass,and cowbell

 it's me
i'm the one thats been shaking the freakin' cowbell at their recordings...they didn't seem to want it at first but once i showed them how nice of a touch it gives to their songs they said..."fine..u shake bell and we call u cow" i was like..."fine then, but everyone is sure to love it"

it turned out spiffy...lovely yes

um to me rock is
like a lot of types of music its just what you say when you dont know what grenre the band is actually going for like screamo or indie or alternative or power rock or metal that is what rock is to me and it is kinda funky but rock badns are all bands that are in lots of genre's l;ike


emo
alternative
experimental
hard core
metal
post hard core
progresive
punk indie


and sh** like that but to me rock is anything with a bass and drums and a guitar

Greenday isn't really alt... The Killers are more pop (like maroon5) the rest are fairly alt though...

Rock music is a fairly general, umbrella term, that can pretty much encompass anything from Metallica (><) to Franz Ferdinand...
