 | Kinks Konnection? Anyone ever notice that The Hives seem to be influenced by the great British Invasion band The Kinks? Especially early Kinks - check out the riffs from Hate To Say I Told You So and Main Offender and compare them to The Kink's All Day And All Of The Night and You Really Got Me. (Download 'em if you can find them) In fact I read a story that the daughter of the Kinks guitarist Dave Davies played Dave some Hives and he said "They sound just like we used to!" *S* Maybe if someone evers talks to Vigilante they could ask him about his musical influences. | | posted: 11/30/2004 08:07 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | the kinks connection is definitely there. At the show at Irving Plaza, among the songs The Hives chose to play before the acts took the stage were two kinsk songs - "All Day And All Of The Night" and my favorite Kinks song - "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy". | | posted: 11/30/2004 08:25 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | .... Yes!
As a matter of fact, when I first played The Hives for my father, right when the album was finished the first band that came to his mind and out of his mouth was, "The Kinks". And then he started talking about how similar they were. Then he went on to dig out a few Kinks records he has and he played them for me. I do agree the Hives definitely have some influence there! | | posted: 11/30/2004 08:32 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Absolutely! U people are right on this one. I hear kinks all over the hives music. Nothing Wrong with that. In fact - my first impression of Tyrannasaurus Hives was, how much pelle sounded like an early Ray Davies on some of the songs off TH. The firsrt time i szaw the hives perform - my first impression was - oooohhhh How Devo-esque. i liked it. | | posted: 11/30/2004 09:00 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Hives-Kinks I first heard of The Hives from someone on the Kinks list, so I think there is common ground for fans of both bands. I'm happy to hear that they were playing some Kinks stuff before the Hives gig in NYC. If Ray and Dave Davies would ever get the Kinks back together, what a great double bill that would be - The Hives and the Kinks! | | posted: 11/30/2004 09:17 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Dave Davies Dave Davies still tours I think, because he was in Sacramento CA not too long ago...anyway my favorite Kinks songs are "She's Got Everything" and "Next in Line"....Hives have other influences from all over too, Devo's already been mentioned and then there's: The Dead Kennedys and I've noticed some smaller influences in stage persona like Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger, James Brown...it's like a concoction of the greatest of the greats in the sharpest of all looks | | posted: 11/30/2004 12:34 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Dave Davies Both Dave and Ray Davies have been touring with their own bands in recent years. Dave has put out a few albums on his own, including the excellent Rock Bottom - Live At The Bottom Line. Unfortunately both Dave and Ray have had their problems in 2004. Ray was shot in the leg while chasing a purse snatcher (his girlfriend's purse) in New Orleans a few months ago, and is just now returning to the stage. Dave, sadly, suffered a stroke a couple months ago, forcing the cancellation of a tour, but is home now and recovering. Hopefully he will be able to resume his tour in 2005. | | posted: 11/30/2004 12:44 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Agree about the Jagger and James Brown moves - but Pelle makes them his own. Very charismatic performer. | | posted: 12/1/2004 07:42 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |
