 | I heard of them when.... It was a dark rainy night about 3 years ago. My cousin and I had stayed up watching tv late into the night for lack of a better alternative. Then, at about 1 in the morning we happened upon a show on MTV2 called Subterrannean. We sat watching the show and talking as uninteresting videos played.... until The Hives came on. We sat entranced for the entire length of "Main Offender." I was so amazed by not only the coolness of the video but the music seemed like it was sent to me by God. They were such a small band then, their video was only played late at night. The next day I went out and bought Barely Legal and Veni Vidi Vicious even though I had heard only one song. From that lifechanging night to the day I die, I will always be a hardcore fan of the greatest band on earth, The Hives!!! | | posted: 7/28/2004 11:23 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Mines boring I was in my room, doing homework after wrestling practice and listening to Punk-O-Rama 5. Tracks 1-3 were fairly routine and boring. Then track 4 came! And it was... the (International) Noise Conspiracy! I was just groovin' by that time. Then the CD drags on through tracks 5-10, until track 11 came on and it was The Beatsteaks! That song was pretty good, and somewhat original. Then tracks 12-14 bored me. Then BAM! Track 15 comes on and it's a techno remix of a Refused song! Man, never knew electroni music could be so rockin'! Well the CD again dragged on for tracks 16-19 but then, a beam of light from Sweden... Satanic Surfers! What a blazing song! The drumming is super fast. And the drummer is also the singer. He does both at the same time, insane! And now, for the first time, the following track was good. It was Pennywise, but, sure enough, tracks 22-24 sucked. So now for the last two tracks that are any good. One band is from Columbus, Ohio, and the other is from... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... umm, I forget where, its not important anyways. So back to the story. track 26, the New Bomb Turks! Tied for greatest band ever! With that other band. They're from, Norway I believe. Err no, it's umm, Finland. No, not quite that. SWEDEN! Ah hah! THE HIVES! With Introduce the Metric System in Time! AMAZING! Wow! it kept me awake even though i was tired after 4 hours of practice (Freshman and Varsity practice, i did both!) So obviously some great music. | | posted: 7/28/2004 23:00 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | Well... My experience was-
I saw a picture of them in my sister's magazine. She poked me in the eye, then decided to give me the picture of the Hives. I decided I liked the way they dressed, so I bought their CD and fell in love with the music instantly. As it happens, I'd seen them on Top of the Pops previously, so I'd heard some of the songs before.

 | Increadible My The Hives moment was a couple of years ago 2001 or 2002 when The Hives visited "Sen kväll med Luuk", Swedens David Letterman kinda, and I wasn't really paying attention although I reacted on the name they'd annoce to be playing that night. "The Hives", I remember really liking the name, it was cool somehow, and I thought that it was just one more of those pop-punk-rock-bands which I porhaps will listen to a little now and then and then they started playing. And after Nicolaus Arsons first touch on his guitar I was hooked. I thought it seamed that this music was taylor made FOR ME. It was the best music possible. I really mean it! And Pelle's hoarse voice was so increadibly great sounding. I've always had a thing for hoarse voices. There is a Swedish actress which isn't that good looking really but I get really turned on by here and it's that hoarse voice. Ok, that sounded weird, but I do like hoarse voices. Porhaps that's why I just love Back in Black, Pelle's voice in that song is just so horribly hoarse I just LOVE it! I can just go on and on about this but that's enough for now.. | | posted: 7/30/2004 12:19 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |

 | hmm.. i really dont remember....
i remember seeing the Main Offender video i think first... or something. I was like "hey, this is pretty good"
Then i saw the Hate to Say I Told You So video on TV, and i was like "holy cow, these are the Main Offender guys.. they're damn good". then my brother gots free CD'S in the mail from a website, some were various artists. they were also featured on the website. www.heavy.com. they played Hate to say I Told You So when the page opened. my brother was all like 'i love this song' and i was like "effin' right, me too". i bought Veni Vidi Vicious before he got that free CD dealy. i honestly only listened to a few times.. i didn't wanna get sick of it by bringing it on long trips since it's like, half an hour long.
i found out that they were coming to toronto and i started listening to Veni Vidi Vicious again. then i bought Tyrannosaurus Hives, and it's awsome too. THEN, i bough Barely Legal ON VINYL!
and the whole dressing up thing attracted me too :D | | posted: 7/30/2004 22:44 | Reply | PM | Edit | IP |
