They've been around for over a decade which is more than most bands and they are great live ( I do prefer Hives though obviously). They may be perceived as commerical now but its only because American rock music is gaining more popularity. When I was at school in 1993-4, me and my friends got bullied relentlessly for liking Nirvana, Green Day, Chilli Peppers etc basically any band that wasn't dance music. Now it's far more acceptable to like this sort of music and there are a lot more skater dudes, emos etc around than there were then. The same has happened to the Foo Fighters and Chilli Peppers, I think they are now considered less cool and "chart music" because they are being accepted by more people and get more radio "air time" Also, I know Green Day are criticised for voicing political opinions but if you had a chance to vioce your views about something you really belived in to millions of people then of course you'de want to take it. You can't criticise someone for trying to make a difference in the world. If I was in Green Days situation or anyone in the media glare then I'd be preaching to everyone about stopping animal cruelty just because that would be my only chance to try and make people listen. If people hated me for it at least I tried. Sorry for being a bit deep there. I just think HATE is a strong word. |

Their album American Idiot was about as experimental as me choosing a new jelly for my PB&Js. There's no excuse for their eye makeup. Their songs don't make true political statements. They're hollow of any meaning. I respect Green Day like I respect Madonna or Paris Hilton. They can sell a product. Do I hate Green Day? No. I hate their over-endearing fans. I hate Entertainment Weekly for running a front page headline "GREEN DAY: Saviors of Rock N Roll!" Rock N Roll didn't need rescuing, especially like this. I miss the old Green Day. There was more genuine artistry and fun before the American Idiot explosion. |

If you can list some reasons why The Strokes are hurting rock music, then please tell us. | jamtart24 registered: 3/15/2006 00:00 posts: 7 | There are a lot worse bands Hey there, I agree with some of the points that Green Day are over hyped (by the media) and don't really experiment on a new sound but I still think they are a hell of a lot better than most bands out there especially all the chart rubbish - I'm talking about Girls Aloud, Crazy Frog, Pop Idol Winners and a majority of all the hip-hop and dance rubbish out there. You gotta agree with me on this!!! |
