"Q: What inspires you to write and record music? A: We've always gone for absurdist stuff in our music. We split the creativity six ways - it's a six man effort. [The Hives' songs are credited to a mysterious recluse named Randy Fitzsimmons]"
I've not seen them refer to themselves as absurdist before.
Wikipedia describes Absurdism as "a philosophy, usually translated into different art forms, that holds that any attempt to understand the universe will fail. It emphasizes and even mocks the search for meaning in a world that is fundamentally meaningless."
We're still waiting for the interview that basically disproves the existance of Randy. This comes close by saying that the creativity of the band is a 6 man effort. The official story is that Randy does all the writing. If the writing is split between 6 of them then the writing credits on all their records are wrong - unless the other 5 are involved non-songwriting creativity.
We could make a case that there is more to the creativity of a band than their song-writing. This could encompass everything from their imagery to the inter-song stage banter. Whether this would amount to 5/6 of the band's creativity is doubtful, however.
