 about dubya?
Is walk idiot walk about the president of the U.S. I read through the lyrics and it seems to make sense if Bush is the topic. "Let the idiot write up his name on the ballot..." etc. I dislike him too personally so it would be cool if it were written about him.

Malcolm rocks - Why wouldn't they write a song about Bush? George W Bush is a great subject to write songs about. And I know that The Hives isn't especially fond of Bush, i read an interview where they bashed Bush pretty hard. Bush is a man that is more hated than liked around the world, and a lot of people are currently writing songs, books making films and so on about Bush.

malcolm i agree
i agree with malcolm rocks on this one, not only because his name is from ac/dc, but because the hives are from sweden, are they not? why would they care about Bush anyways? he's not their president. i doubt they would make a song about him specifically.

p.s.
i like bush, quite a bit. anyways,
i think it's stupid that anyone would even think of putting out a Anti-Bush cd. it's a very small minded thing to do. what happened to the true meaning of music which is to go out and enjoy it? music is supposed to take you away for a few minutes from you're daily life. the hives do a great job of that, why would they want to drag politics into their art and music? it doesnt seem like them at all to write a song about bush. they're very private people so why would they start showing their personnal political views?

i agree completely. why would you possibly wanna lose some fans because of something as stupid as that. and I cant believe that The Hives commented on Bush during an interview. You'd think they'd have better things to talk about pollitics. but if you have a link to that interview yo back urself up, id like to see it.

Sorry, that interview was in a swedish newspaper years ago. You'll just have to trust me, But regardless of this interview, I can almost say for sure that The Hives don't like Bush. If they did, they would be looked upon as idiots here in Sweden. Most people here hate Bush, they see him as a dumb moron that is embarrassing your country. Of course there are some people that like Bush, but I don't think there is any rock bands that like him. Rock bands are expected, maybe not to be outspokenly politcal, but to not be right-wing.

But as you say The Hives is a nonpolitical band, that wants people to have a good time. I don't either think that Walk, Idiot, Walk is an anti-Bush song,
but it could be. So many bands has mixed politics into their lyrics in the past, I don't agree with you when you say that music should be nonpolitical.

Music can be so many things, It could be political, it could be emotional, it could be just fun and so on. Thats the great thing of music.

i agree malcolm
those who know that bush is an idiot will continue knowing that. those knowing that he isnt will also continue doing so, your not going to change anyones mind here. but music has always been a soapbox for politics. i believe that music is for opening your eyes in many cases, shutting yourself from the world in others. not lumped, because its as diverse as the people who write/play it. personally, i dont like the guy whatsoever, and i work for george bush (dont we all) .

 the hives-political?
I did not mean to start an argument, however I believe a band such as theirs who lives outside the U.S. could write a song about a political figure who affects so much of the world other than America. Also the Hives are not an outright political band but some lyrics(especially of Barely Legal) could definitely be thought to be political. "Up against a mighty, mighty man" from Aka IDIOT and in Automatic Schmuck "part of a system that uses me", etc. Many of their lyrics do not point directly to political figures or certain ideas about the world but they certainly suggest them. Anyway, I'm sorry if I offended anyone but as long as the discussion isn't mean spirited it can't hurt anyone.

eh................
You know, usually I vote Republican but definitley not this year, BUT I always found that you can't change people's opinions. That's solely up to them and getting in arguments over boards is really pretty silly. And what Malcolm is saying is simply be polite and there's nothing wrong with that, you know?

As for the lyrics...
It's a lot more about conforming than anything else. Really, I think the line about writing your name on the ballot is about anyone who partcicipates in a political system because the moment you're putting your name on the ballot you're participating in a system (regardless of the system) and that is a way of conforming.

Nicholaus and Pelle warn people about talking about things they know little about in Dead Quote Olympics. It's pretty obvious to me that they've been reading Nietzsche as many of the lyrics have a Nitzschean appeal to them. Modern man's false nature, man removed from primal state, man against the system, etc. So look at the lyrics in a bigger light than just George Bush or "teachers" and much more will be revealed.

 church/music and state/politics are seperate
im sorry to throw in my opinion to this mass-debate but as an English person im sick of this fixation and publicity of Mr.Bush, I think its quite ridiculous the amount of publicity and hatred shown by the youth, why is it so popular to be left wing, i love the western world, its were i was born and raised but please please please stop linking music with politics, it should be as seperate as church and state and to me music is easily as big as both.

I understand your feelings towards Mr.Bush and i understand that im probably in a minority but i like the hives music for rythm riffs and style, not people trying to put political spin on every lyeic possible, come on, how many people int he world can be called idiot. and the idea of ballot is not just an american one, maybe the idea of signing the ballet refers to swedish politicians??? or a countless number of things, anyway im ranting, and ive probably mad eneimies and now ive forgot my point.
